Like the biblical cliché goes, ” blessed be the name that giveth than the one that taketh”, the Suhum Municipal Chief Executive Honourable Margaret Darko Darkwah, in collaboration with the social warfare, brought to bare another manifesto promise by the governing New Patriotic Party ( NPP).
It could be recalled that prior to the 2016 elections the then largest opposition party NPP, made a lot of manifesto pledges to the Ghanaian electorates including a disability fund to be set up to meet the needs of disables in our society. In view of this, the Suhum Municipal Chief Executive Honourable Margaret Darko Darkwah, the representative of the President in the Municipality, has organized a durbar for all disables and donated to them over hundred of thousands Ghana cedis worth of items to equip them to enhance their living.
The program saw a lot of Municipal Assembly representations and constituency executives of the ruling New Patriotic Party. The program, which aims at presenting relief items to the disables, later turns into a unity program which saw both NDC and NPP members within the Suhum Municipality under one umbrella.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Honourable Margaret Darko Darkwah, addressing the gathering, said “if we could remember in 2005 ,President kuffuor set up a fund called Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) which ought to cater for the aged and the vulnerable in the society, but it was collapsed by the NDC. Thank God that his Excellency the President, Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo Addo has come to augment it to reach out to you the disables.” She also entreated the gathering to continue to pray for the President and his appointees to be able to do more of this for them.
Some of the items presented include fridges, knapsack sprayers, cutlasses, sewing machines, popcorn making machines, and cash. All these items were given based upon the request made by the disabled to the social warfare team.
According to Samuel Baah, media aide to the MCE, the historical program which saw representation of disables from all the 302 communities in the Suhum Municipality, live all the disables in utterly dismay quantifying the amount of items giving out to them freely without a dine taken from them.
One of the disables, in thanking the Hon MCE and her team, indicated that, this laudable idea by the President and his team, we pray that God should keep them long in power. The disables expressed their happiness by dancing with the MCE to the song “me nhyira na aba Yi, Obi nnyani me Oo s3 3y3 day3 na me so a “.
