E.C. BOSS IMPEACHMENT NOT WITCH HUNTING; RULE OF LAW – NPP YOUTH ACTIVIST
A New Patriotic Party (NPP) youth activist in the Ashanti Region has called on critics particularly the largest opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to refrain from a deliberate attempt to demonize the Nana Akufo Addo led NPP government over the Electoral Commission impeachment saga.
Scores of the NDC has described the impeachment process of the Electoral Commissioner Mrs Charlotte Osei and her two deputies; Mr Amadu Sulley and Mrs Georgina Opoku Amankwaa as a clear case of political witch hunting. They also believe the President, Nana Akufo Addo, Chief Justice, Sophiah Akufo and the Attorney General, Gloria Akufo, have not been fair to the EC boss for denying her the right to know the petitioners and a copy of the petition to enable her file her defence.
But speaking to Solid FM’s Sarkodie Peprah at the Regional Coordinating Council, an aspiring Ashanti Regional Youth Organizer of the NPP, Mr Emmanuel Akuoko, who doubles as the Special Assistant to the Regional Minister, Hon Simon Osei Mensah, said the Chief Justice based on the petition filed against the EC boss established a prima facie case and has according to the law set up a committee to look into the matter for the necessary legal action. Therefore any move to politicize the process is baseless and should be thrown into the bin.
He said the three commissioners based on their own allegations and counter allegations alone serve enough grounds for impeachment and that any attempt to draw the Nana Akufo Addo’s incorruptible government into the muddy waters of the commissioners is bogus and should never be taken serious.
